Areas of focus and expertise include the ability to:Act as a liaison and fill the gaps between design and engineering.Demonstrate foundational engineering fundamentals (e.g., interpreting designs, writing code, working with source control). Participate in design and code reviews to ensure the quality of implementation and execution from a user experience and engineering perspective.Contribute to visual designs from concept to delivery. Create workflows, journey maps, user scenarios, task flows, and personas in support of interaction design software-based experiences.Learn about, contribute to, and implement a broader design system, increasing its adoption and consistent usage in Microsoft Research, our product partners and companywide.Design and develop prototypes demonstrating the functionality and flow of software applications and research tools. Focus on end-to-end user experiences, empathizing and balancing experiences with business and technical tradeoffs.Produce and validate product design specifications and production requirements.Negotiate design solutions in relation to business goals. Explore the cutting edge of artificial intelligence and human interaction and collaboration.Present ideas, workflows and be able to guide an audience though your work.Demonstrate a track record of delivering great work on time.Have a passion for customers and creating designs focused on a customer's needs. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world's best researchers, Research Interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Research Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other Research Interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.
