Job Summary

(Open to current employees and the general public.) This position acts as a Camp Director at the City of Kirkland Tennis & Swim Camp at Peter Kirk Park Monday through Thursday.
Tennis/Swim position works directly with the Camp Lead to instruct children at a variety of tennis levels

Job Description
City of Kirkland is seeking an enthusiastic professional to coordinate tennis related activities in a summer camp setting. Must participate in all camp activities including swimming during the afternoon session at the pool.

Camp Hours
Must be available Monday through Thursday. Approximate shift is 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. This part-time temporary position runs from June through the end of August.

Position Responsibilities

  • The Tennis Director is responsible for creating the tennis curriculum and overseeing the day-to-day implementation of the summer tennis program. Directors play a key role in creating and defining day-to-day activities and take a visible leadership role at camp. They serve as the primary instructors for teaching fundamental skills as well as more advanced strategy.
  • Directors should be passionate about their sport and love working with young athletes ranging from grades 1st through 6th grade.
  • In addition to leading the tennis program, the Tennis Director will work alongside Assistant Coaches and are able to offer guidance and feedback, in addition to functioning as their direct supervisor.
  • Assistant Coaches placed in the tennis program will have a fundamental knowledge of the sport but may not have prior experience with coaching or teaching.
  • Serve as head of camp, responsible for execution of daily drill and match-play sessions.
  • Develop and lead daily sport specific drill and game components.
  • Communicate equipment and facility needs to camp leadership staff.
  • Create and maintain collaborative relationships with Assistant Coaches
Ensure the welfare of campers and positive resolution of camper related issues.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good verbal, written, and telephone communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the public to acknowledge both compliments and complaints.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs.
  • Proficiency in standard computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite applications Word, Excel and Outlook
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 or older by the date of hire
  • Must have a genuine interest in working with children.
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, dependable
  • Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to start date
  • Must successfully complete a thorough background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
Two years' experience playing or teaching tennis. Sufficient knowledge and understanding of the game of tennis to teach and coach effectively. Working Conditions & Physical Activities Work is performed in outdoor tennis courts with varying weather conditions. Must be able to lift, walk, bend, stop, stand, and run for duration of work. Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification by start date. Must successfully complete a thorough background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act.

Work Environment
The outdoor tennis activities will take place daily at Peter Kirk Park and pool. Periodically when weather does not permit outdoor activities, camp may be moved indoors at the Peter Kirk Community Center.
