Overview Research Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers, who pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment. In our Privacy Preserving Machine Learning initiative, we apply privacy and confidentiality preserving techniques to enable domain-adapted, personalized AI experiences. We closely collaborate with multiple research teams and product groups across the globe. Some of the problems we are currently working on are: empirically evaluating privacy risk under real world adversaries; enabling differential privacy to large foundational models; formalizing privacy properties; investigating new model architectures that respect privacy and confidentiality by design. We are looking for research interns to help advance the state of the art of privacy enhancing technologies (PETs). The ideal candidate will have a background in Privacy Enhancing Technologies or Natural Language processing and the motivation and ambition to apply this in a real-world setting. ResponsibilitiesResearch Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world's best researchers, Research Interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.
