OverviewResearch Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers, who pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment.The Human-AI eXperiences (HAX) team at MSR AI Frontiers is looking for Research Interns to advance the state-of-the-art in human-AI systems and experiences with a focus on leveraging the capabilities of people and foundation model-based agents to solve real problems and improve people's lives. As a Research Intern on our team, you will: Work on challenging and impactful projects in areas such as human-AI collaboration and teaming, foundation model-based systems, multi-agent systems, next generation AI systems and experiences and responsible AI. Apply your skills and knowledge to build practical solutions to solve real problems and impact the world. Collaborate with other researchers and engineers across the company in a supportive and stimulating environment. We are looking for applicants who have: A drive for real world impact, demonstrated by a passion to build and evaluate working prototypes (e.g., via user studies).A demonstrated track record of influential projects and publications in relevant fields and top-tier conferences and journals (such as CHI, UIST, FAccT, AAAI, NeurIPS, ICML). Coding and hands-on experience working with large foundation models (e.g., OpenAI GPT models, LLAMA etc) and related prompting techniques, frameworks and toolkits (e.g., ICL, CoT, ReACT, Langchain, AutoGen). A team player mindset, characterized by effective communication, collaboration, and feedback skills. ResponsibilitiesResearch Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world's best researchers, Research Interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Research Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other Research Interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer. Additional ResponsibilitiesExecute on research directions at the frontiers of AI.Work closely with other researchers, engineers and product group partners on joint projects.
